FC United Tournament

Fc United Tournament Fc United Tournament

northerncare held their second football tournament in partnership with FC United of Manchester for young people in care in our homes and across AGMA’s authorities on Saturday 21st April. This was due to the huge success of our first tournament last year where a team from Salford won the cup and over 60 young people took part.

We had 9 teams taking part this time with over 80 young people including teams from Bury, Salford, Oldham and Macclesfield. The tournament was held at Bury College and all the young people, staff and event organisers went to Gigg Lane to watch FC United’s home game after where they won 4-2 against Salford City!

northerncare presented trophies to the overall Cup winners and Runners-up, winners of the Shield and the Plate and Players of the Tournament from each age category. All the young people who took part received a T-shirt and were presented with a medal, certificate and an FC United goody bag. The Cup Winners were from Bury (the Sky Blue Team) who also got the added bonus of being presented with the Cup by an FC United player at half-time on the pitch at Gigg Lane. Well done to them! Congratulations also go to the Red Team who were the overall runners-up, the White Team who won the Shield and the Orange Team who won the Plate, and of course to all the staff who came down and supported and managed the teams on the day.

“Following on from the tournament, the young people who took part were given the chance to win a signed football and scarf from FC United by writing match reports about the day. Below are the winning entries.”

"The children from The Nook had to get up at 8 o’clock because we had to be at Bury College for 8.45am. When we got there I was amazed how big the pitch looked, because it looks so small on TV. Then had to wait for a woman to come around to collect our names and ages so she could put us in to our groups, then when we were in our groups we started to play our first game, but it was a bit tricky because the other team new our next moves, because my team was not co-operating and the others were, we were beaten 8 6. After the first mach we had a rest before we could play our next game. When we were playing our next opponents, there was a funny moment when one of the other opponents fell down and it made everyone laugh at him. Then we had an other rest before we started our next mach, then I suddenly realised that I had the ball, then I shot my leg up and gave the ball all the power that I had. Then the next thing you now it went in then the crowd and my team cheered me on, and then I was proud myself. I am glad northerncare has sorted this out for us so we can join in and learn how to communicate with other homes, after the competition we went to have our medals and had our lunch, then we went to watch the match and FC United v Salford City. Then we had to travel all the back home. I also thank all the staff for sorting the competition."

1st Runner Up
"We were invited to play in a football competition at FC United. We played in 6 games and did pretty good. We were the yellow team so we looked a little bit like canaries. We won half of the games that we played but we enjoyed all of them. We were starving after playing and we were well up for the top buffet that was put on for us. We went on to watch FC United play after. It was a good game and we were glad to see FC win the match. We would like to thank FC United for a great day out and we hope that we can do it again soon!

Thanks again, from all the lads at The Birches."

2nd Runner Up
"On Saturday 21 April, the children from many other northerncare homes took part in a football tournament at Bury College run by F.C United of Manchester.

We set off at 8:00am and arrived at 8:45am. The teams were sorted out by age so all the teams were the same and five children were on at one time. All the teams played each other twice. The white team won, they played very well and the orange team were not far behind, they also played quite well.

Thanks to the referees for helping us all out and all the coaches for support and thanks for the good day."
