Participation of Children and Young People  

northerncare has now signed up to Blackpool’s Hear By Rights kite mark scheme which aims to validate practice and reward services for engaging in the Blackpool Hear By Rights process. The kite mark consists of five stages, each symbolising a different level of achievement. Hear by Right standards provide a framework against which organisations can map what is being done to build in children and young people’s participation and take action to improve. Hear by Right offers a structured approach to participation against seven areas.

northerncare: Kite Mark Levels Achieved

Stage 1 (Green) – northerncare has signed up to the Blackpool Access and Participation HBR Protocol and nominated the Participation Manager as northerncare’s lead worker for the involvement of children and young people.
 
Stage 2 (Blue) –northerncare’s Participation Manager undertakes HBR training with Blackpool Participation and Access unit. .
 
Stage 3 (Bronze) – in March 2010 northerncare completed the HBR self-assessment and produced a Management Action Plan, submitting this to Blackpool’s sub group and assessors, we were awarded the bronze level Kite Mark. Recommendations from the sub group were made as to how we can further improve the involvement of children and young people.
 
The Next stage
 
Stage 4 (Silver) – An action plan will be implemented taking into account the recommendations from the Blackpool HBR sub group and assessors. This will be completed by the Participation Manager and submitted to the sub group and assessors on Dec 1st 2010.
 
Stage 5 (Gold)  – Awarded 12 months after the initial submission if northerncare provides evidence that they are continually striving to develop the involvement of children and young people and participate in the 12 month re-assessment programme.
