2009 marks the tenth anniversary of northerncare. Founded in August 1999 in Blackpool with the opening of our first home, Piers House, northerncare has grown to be one of the largest providers of residential childcare in the country. In 2007 the company was listed in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 League Table of the fastest growing companies within the UK. As of July 2009, northerncare are operating 31 homes nationwide with over 170 beds available, with plans for further expansion in the coming months focused on East Anglia, the North West and the South West.

Our impressive growth plans does not mean that northerncare will not continue to go the ‘extra mile’ by providing individually crafted care and education for the children and young people we look after. Those in our care always come first, so that they are given the same opportunity as their peers to build a positive future. The emphasis at northerncare is placed upon treating each child as an individual with an ethos that our children ‘deserve the best’.

Plans are underway for a Fun Day on 12th August 2009 to celebrate our anniversary, with the celebrations open to all our young people and the hard working staff teams that look after them. The event will be held in Blackpool and will be based on the hit 80’s television show “It’s a Knockout.” There will be inflatable obstacle courses, wheelbarrow races and many other wild, wacky and, no doubt, wet, challenges to help children and staff let off steam.

Up to 24 teams of 6-10 people will compete throughout the day in a variety of 10 games in a bid to win prizes, trophies and all the plaudits. After a brilliant, but no doubt exhausting day, the hungry competitors will be treated to a BBQ dinner. The “It’s a Knockout” fun day promises to be a day to be remembered for everyone and we look forward to sharing what happened on the day with you on our website. Watch this space!
